Happy Holidays!

Summer finally came to the northeast. But there’s not a whole lot to report. Without pictures or stories the “News & Reviews” and I got a pass.

The one interesting event (as all litters born are events) was the repeat breeding of Goodness with Brewster. The first breeding that produced Thunder, Lightning, and Rain was conducted over 3 years ago. This was more of an event because Brewster sadly has passed over the rainbow bridge – but his semen was frozen while he was still with us. So Miss Goodness gave birth to 4 little guys. This is the first time I have used the frozen samples of the stored semen. I have supplied it to others – all success stories – so it was a real learning experience.

Now the pups are all gone; placed in their new loving homes, everyone reports a good transition. This little guy has two new friends to keep him busy.

Hi Dennis,

Just a quick note to let you know that Lilly is doing great and we are

having a wonderful time with her. So far sleeping in the crate is our

least successful venture as she hates being left alone and it's hard

to hear her howl and cry. We are working toward it slowly. We also

think that she is half cat as she loves to be held and cuddled. She is

having a great time running in the yard. Lilly and our other dog Luna

are getting along as well. As you can see, Lilly and Luna have become

quite attached to each other. She is doing great and we are really enjoying

her. Thanks so much again. We are totally in love with this pup. We love having her!

And we'll keep you posted.

Hi Dennis,

Picture of him resting with my stepfather last night. He is adjusting surprising well and all ready walking a mile and eating food with joy.

He is really a gem - slept through night easily in crate but awoke and wanted to go. It is such fun. He was leash walking today in the backyard with ease and pride.

Hello Dennis,

It is already three weeks ago that we picked up our puppy. He is doing very well.

He has learned a lot:

. he knows where he is at home

. he knows who belongs to his family

. sleeps from 10 pm until 6.30 am without going potty and whining

. knows his name

. has an idea of the instructions like sit an come here

. he is eating well too

Still there is a but: he is doing his business in the house. We praise him a lot when he is doing it outside, choosing a special praise “good potty”.

We started to give him a tiny treat when he used the garden instead of the house. We think he is aware that it is a good think to “go” outside. Is it possible that he is still in the stage, that he can’t control it, while he is active. Because his bed is clean during the night. We would be very happy, if you can share your experience with us.

Around the summer and fall show scene you could find a few Kiara family members showing their stuff. Sue Meluzin and little Gabby have been out and about. Mike McLoughlin has been showing both Miss Sugar and Miss Rosie. Pat and Richard Sutton have been exhibiting their young TTs as well. Both JJ and Katie have been steppin’ out and struttin’ their stuff. And even I have had Lightning out at the dog shows.

The good news is that they all earned points. And even better – Lightning, JJ, and Katie have completed their AKC championships.

Springtime 2009

This is my favorite photo of my first TT, Katie. Soon I hope to have it on the wall. Jody Whitsell has agreed to put her unique spin on it and create a painting. I can’t wait!

Mike sends a photo of his Sugar, Miss Photogenic TT.  Can you tell where her nose has been?

Once more there are little beauties to view. Maureen Dwyer sent this outstanding photo of her new Tag x Molly litter. After the first litter, a second one repeated could not be resisted! A rainbow of TT coloration!


And in Minnesota: Asland sent some of his genes to produce these lovelies. Mimi and Cheryl (the breeder moms) are really happy with this litter.

The small “at-home” litter of two went off to their homes. Mally and Oliver have both made great transitions into their new families, bringing the wonderful companion temperaments Kiara has become known for.

Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know that Oliver is doing great. He has adjusted very well to being here - no separation anxiety. He's enjoying getting to know his neighborhood and has figured out how to climb our staircase and jump on the couch. The kids are loving him. He's sleeping well and eating well. We've really had no issues so far. He went to the vet on Tuesday and all looks good.

We have the absolute sweetest puppy in the whole world. She is both loving and spirited/playful and has completely attached herself to Lindsay. She slept the whole way home after crying for about 15 minutes. She is really adjusting well to her new environment. Some crying at night but I guess that is to be expected. It has been quite a busy week but I wanted to send you the pictures attached. I will touch base with you soon. How is Oliver fairing without his sister?

And sometimes news comes from those TTs placed years ago. Good stories are good stories, and sometimes are the best stories. Seeing photos of Pepper and Om from litters long ago, well adjusted in their loving families is comforting.

We purchased our Tibetan from you six years ago. I was just enjoying perusing your web site and I wasn't sure how to post you a note so I'm emailing some photos instead.

Pepper (Kiara These Foolish Things) was born on June 22, 2002. Her sire was CH Kiara Ain't Misbehavin' and her Dam was Kiara Call Me Madam.

I spoke with you briefly last year at the Bay Colony Show. Anyway I just want to tell you what a joy she is. She has the sweetest disposition and is quiet and loving. Everyone who meets her falls in love. My children (now 18 and 10) keep begging me for another one but I'm not sure Pepper wants to share my attention. She is my constant companion!

Even though Tenzing and Lily were not born here at Kiara, their dad, Snoopy, was. And because Bob & Lisa loved “the look” and “the temperament” and “the soundness” of their two oldsters, they came to the source for their newest addition, Om. No, she’s not a puppy, turning 5 this year herself.

We miss you Paul & Kathleen! They have moved south to Florida. The lovely litter out of their Willow was here while they moved. Jack, their newest pup, out of Willow and Yogi joined them early winter. He missed the winter snows but gets to romp on the sunny beaches. Altogether, sounds pretty good to me.


Hi Again,
Jack had his first walk on the beach the other day. One photo shows the beach path near our house. Jack mostly loved the ocean breeze. Hope this warms up you New Englanders!

Well, Jack made it big here in Palm Coast.
The dog trainer used him in her advertisement this month in this area's business circular.
She sent me a copy of the proof.

And when no pups were coming here and a good TT owner contacted me for a special little person, I knew Faith Lowell had just what she was looking for. I’m glad I could bring them together.

I thought you might be interested in seeing the pup we got from Faith Lowell in VT on Saturday. We call her Bailey and she is just a cutie and quite active! She has bonded with our 8 month old male Lhasa Apso, Coach. They sleep together in their crate and it has certainly helped keep the whining down at night.

Springtime has arrived at Kiara. That usually means a few shows are in store. Although she was not shown at the Regional Specialty in New Jersey, little Gabby showed herself off around the rings. Proud dad, Tag, and mom, Jilly, can’t wait to add her to their lists of accomplishments. It was Gabby’s first time at a show site and nothing seemed to phase her. So, get ready for Gabby.

Santa visited Ken, Sunny, and Hope in Maine.  Ken sent this photo along.  He was very happy that Santa brought Sunny a grooming table.  I think Sunny may have been happy with a bucket of biscuits.  But if it helps out . . .

Congratulations to the Dinenes. Their Asland/Dream boy is now new AKC Champion Kiara Most Happy Fella. Happy makes Asland’s list of creditable get even longer.

And finally, Mr. Lukie (CH Kiara Fallen Angel) isn't happy just with his beauty accolades and proud fatherhood; he’s heading to American Doggie Idol: He loves to sing (or sing along with) in this case Fleetwood’s “You Can Go Your Own Way”.




His all-time fav and debut song, surprising his human pals, Jim & Dave, is Abba’s “Dancing Queen”. And his latest attempt –watch out Diana—is the Supreme’s “Stop In The Name Of Love”.

Ain’t motherhood a grand thing to witness. Love this picture of Pat & Richard Sutton’s Buffy taking care of business in the backyard. Doesn’t she have a grateful brood! And the little star that emerged from the group is a daughter clone: Katie, Khyber’s Heart of My Heart.








Mike McLoughlin also sends a picture of his little star, Rosie, Lukilu Everything’s Coming up Roses at Kiara, from his litter this past summer. Here she is sitting pretty with a pumpkin.





And Sue Meluzin found a keeper in her litter too. Little Gabby, Zin-Pa's Gossip Girl, has already grown from this stacked photo of ten weeks.



No, that’s not a TT. The TTs are there, in the background, thinking where did dad go wrong with that breeding…it’s the biggest, ugliest TT ever. No, it’s Oscar, the Boxer. They had the opportunity to engage Oscar in TT play while his owners were vacationing. He was glad when his owners returned…and only they can love such a face.



Ethel lost Merm this past year. Hoping for a new spirited pup, her dreams came true. One of the little Miss Thing pups is living up to all expectations and help fill her life with new joy, love, and companionship. Oh yes, she is a handful . . . but so worth it. And worth the wait as well, as little Iris is a Merm great-granddaughter.





And Ken sends news. Sunny has a new friend. But he says it best:



Sunny has a new friend, five month old "Ri Lee’s Diamond Of Hope" So it's also time to change the name of this e-mail list to "Hope and Sunshine's Friends"

I knew Hope would be the perfect companion for Sunny.

Well,the peace only lasted about five minutes! After Hope let Sunny chase her for a few minutes she decided to test Sunny. What seemed like a meek female TT turned out to be a real firecracker. Their first week together poor Sunny was pretty much terrorized. Sunny wondered if Hope is ever going to let him alone. The minute he would try to move Hope would run over and start nipping and force him back into the corner.

Now an interesting thing has happened. Sunny finally decided to fight back. From that point they have become best friends. Now they run from one end of the house to the other then lay together in Hope's bed totally exhausted.








Sugar is the most photogenic pretty girl! Groomed and stylized, she relaxes at the feet of her beloved owners.


Up in Vermont, Sugar's brother Beau has piled all his toys at his feet. Where else should they be!

Sunny, Sugar, and Beau are three wonderful Asland kids. Even Cheryl Zahradka gets wonderful updates from the companions of her Asland/Flame brood. She's very grateful that her litter of eight all have wonderful temperaments -- all confirmed by their owners. And usually the comments come in with pictures...like this one.









Here at home we have two new additions. A repeat breeding of Miss Thing and Tag produced two robust little ones, a little Miss and a little Mister. They will bring a lot of joy here for the holidays.

A lot of reporting . . . and most of it by way of the stork. Maureen Dwyer (maurfrat@aol.com) reports that Molly bred to my Tag produced six fine TT babies in Vermont. And Tag’s sister, Buffy, produced seven newbies for Pat and Richard Sutton (psutton@embarqmail.com) in Pennsylvania. Pat has been looking forward to this litter because it brings together Buffy and Josh. Faith Lowell (flowell@together.net) reports that Dimple and my Yogi brought four new TTs into the world. Mike McLoughlin’s Sadie bred to Karen Didricksen and Faith’s Deli (formerly Fidel) had five new beauties (mcloughlin@aol.com). I had the privilege of helping out bring these babes into the world. These two stars from the litter are two that have been making Mike's choice hard to make. And most recently, in NYC, Sue Meluzin’s Jilly gave birth to four. (zinpatt@aol.com). Again Tag is the proud father of this brood. Congratulations of your litters and thanks for bringing so much to the breed by way of these breedings.

In the TT yard, we had a visitor. Ken brought Sunny down to meet dad. Asland, dad, recently turned that corner from youngster (at heart anyway) to the-old-man-in-the-yard. At his advanced years, he’s doing really well. Hopefully he may make one more mark on the Kiara line…only time and a sperm count will tell.

It was a wonderful meeting and Sunny is a shining example of the lovely qualities Asland has brought to Kiara. He has a sunny disposition (greatest temperament) with an effortless gait because of a proper construction, all contained within a handsome exterior. He is a credit to his dad and also to his mom, Flame.

Sunny met some of his family. And Ken said it best:

Finally had a chance last week to head down to Danvers MA for Sunny to meet his Dad Asland and for me to visit with Dennis Gunsher.

After having Afghan Hounds and seeing what they look like when they have to be shaved down Sunny's Dad was not at his best as he had just been clipped down. He is fifteen years old but to see what a handsome dog he is in full coat you can go to Dennis's site.

Upon arriving to have Sunny meet his Dad, Dennis had all of his dogs come in from their play-yard. Dennis has created a Tibetan landscape which takes a little thought to realize their natural habitat is rocks and gravel. One female decided she wanted to stay out so Sunny had, I guess, his first date.

And more news from up north…another Asland daughter was romping around at Debbie and Jim Griffiths’:

This is Annie. She lives in Burlington VT with Jim’s brother. It’s an early summer shot in our yard while she was playing with Kappy. I’m sure you’ll agree, she’s a real beauty! Kappy thinks so too. My understanding is she is now wearing a summer cut. We’ll get to see her again in a couple weeks. Hope your summer is going well. Kappy want you to keep him in mind for a future breeding.

Besides the numerous pics Mike has sent of Sadie and the pups, he forwarded this beauty of Sugar. Sugar is Annie’s sister. And like her sister, Sugar is maturing nicely. Besides proving how beautiful she is on the outside (so obvious looking at her photo)…she proves every day how beautiful she is on the inside. She loves be the puppy sitter …taking over when mom tires.

Here at home the newest "great expectation" is little Willow and Yogi’s daughter, Molly, Kiara Fire Down Below. She went to live the Glascos and their older TT in Michigan. Molly is quite the little package and we look forward to hearing about her progress in the future.




And as always there is some show news. Recently at the Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club Ninth Annual Specialty the Kiara clan was well represented. Fortuitously winning a 5 point major, Kiara Lightning Strikes walked away with the Winners’ Dog prize.  That came with numerous stuffed toys -- much more to his liking!

Lightning’s mom, Goodness, is now CH Kiara Simply Irresistible. Had to grow her coat back after having her litter that brought us Thunder, Lightning, and Rain. But it grew back ever so nicely.


Lightning's cousins Elvira and Floyd showed very well at the Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club Specialty weekend too. A few weeks later, Elvira did some winning of her own. The 4th of July weekend was hers! She and her companion, Susan Meluzin, were in Maryland garnering wins. Look at this beauty!











And last but not least, Cheryl Zahradka and Flame (mom) are proud of Blaze. Blaze completed his championship recently out in Minnesota. What a handsome TT he is!
