Merry, Merry, Merry 2016

It's that time year again. The time we set aside to enjoy our family, our friends, and our furry friends too! Concerts, plays, parties, shopping, festival celebrations with tree lightings and carolers fill up the calendar days counting down to total exhaustion. Hopefully throughout all of that you find some moments to just reflect, get inspired, and find personal peace in all the holiday happenings.

Great show news from Travis Brock --Doris (Kiara Promethean Fire At Terpsichorean) has earned a major at the Albany Kennel Club show. And what a beauty she is! Thank you Travis, Miles, and Jane for raising such a wonderful girl who greets everyone she meets with wags and licks and shows herself off so artfully.

And she has more credits to her name now. Jane reports that she's earned her Canine Good Citizen award.

Doris (previously known as Little Fat Girl - currently referred to as Little Missy) received her Canine Good Citizen AKC title yesterday 11/25/16 at the Holyoke Kennel Club Dog Show. She is a lovable, lively little girl who bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart. Thank you Dennis Gunsher for breeding happy dogs and Travis Brock for letting me play with her.

Jane

It's always good to hear how everyone is doing. Catching up and knowing how the wee Kiara's that have left here are doing is always heart-warming and appreciated. Whether a quick up-date, simply a photo or a card, I enjoy hearing about them. I especially love to hear that birthdays get celebrated.

Happy 8th birthday Mallomar!! Best dog ever!!

Michele

Happy third birthday to Miles Davis! Our little love brings us joy every day! ❤️❤️

Patricia & Tim

Happy 3rd birthday to Lark and her brother Miles Davis Gartland.

Laura

Looks like brothers met up in class together. Triscuit and Baxter have fun and catch up. Nice to see the bros maturing.

Dennis,
Thought you would want to know that Baxter and Triscuit were in the obedience class, and thoroughly enjoyed being together! Baxter is in the left, Triscuit on the right, both only willing to sit for a picture after being exhausted from class!(and looking a tad disheveled!)
Hope all is well!
Janet

Happy Thanksgiving, Uncle Dennis!

Imagine…I am 13 1/2 years young…feeling fit and full of hugs and licks!

Bob, Lisa, & Om

Hi Dennis!
Mel has settled in beautifully and clearly feels right at home in the mountains...must be getting back to her ancestral roots :  )  She's an unbelievable trail dog...literally ran circles around us at 13,000 feet. We're so in love!  Thank you for gracing us with this amazing dog.  She helped ease the transition to our new home and is such a sweet part of our family.
Please fee free to use this picture for your website...and we have lots more if you'd like.  She's my new obsession.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Know that you have made our family richer.
Regina et al

This is one stunning photo of Mel taken by Regina. It should make a calendar or something. I can hear John Denver..."Rocky Mountain high..."
Mel surveying all that reminds her of Tibet.

And another excellent photo clicked by the talented
--and probably very lucky-- Mike McLoughlin
of Sadie in the leaves.
The beautiful Sadie (CH Kiara Harlem Song )
sunning herself on a beautiful --unseasonably warm-- November day.

From high up in the Rockies to the Florida coast...  Debbie and Jim take the crew on a sunset cruise. They won't be seeing any New England weather in this Florida setting. We in the chilling Northeast are envious.

Anxiously waiting for their sunset cruise!

Debbie

And even in this season of merriment, I want to help say good-bye to a wonderful companion. The Burlile's made a wonderful home for one of the wee ones that left here many years ago. I have dozens of photos throughout the years showing the love showered on this special package of love. Ali, you will be missed...but the wonderful memories will help soothe the pain of loosing you.

It's such a compassionate act to see her to the rainbow bridge. Thank you.

Dennis,
We put our pup down this afternoon.  I was very proud of my brood--they all insisted on being present... as I'm  sure you know,  there's little that's harder to do than say goodbye to a family member who still woke up at 5 every morning,  pain and all,  and went to sniff the kids' bedroom doors to see if they were there...cancer sucks ...but what joy she brought us,  and hopefully,  we to her.
Are you still breeding?  Once this sorrow abates, well, who knows...
Thanks for sending Ali to us.
Charles Burlile,  et al

For several years now I have put together a YouTube video celebrating the Tibetan Terrier. Thanking everyone who has sent in the many inspiring photos throughout the year. I only wish all of them could be used. Just watching it makes me smile. I hope you find it warming and celebratory as well.

You can also see this on the YouTube site. Cut and paste this:

in the YouTube search box or you may be able to find it with it's title "Tibetan Terrier Kiara Holiday Tidings 2016".

Again, wishing everyone
the merriest...the happiest
...the peacefullest Holiday Season...
and the happiest New Year!

Leaves Are Falling 2016

It's been a year since these little Cooper/Passion pups got to don their Halloween icons to show themselves off. And thanks to Jane, they got a lot of exposure. The above card is just a small sample of Jane's passion and love her boy, Cooper, and all that he can accomplish. Center-top is Doris, known in the show ring as Kiara Promethean Fire At Terpsichorean. She is pictured below at camp.

Doris made a splash at the Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club Specialty weekend. On Friday under respected judge Timothy Robbins she earned a major! Very proud of her --and of course her very accomplished handler and human-Dad, Travis Brock.

And here at Kiara she has new 1/2 brothers and sisters. Passion and Lightning are proud parents of a new bunch of babies. Dad did his work a while ago; but Mom is a dutiful, diligent care-giver, and as always taking her job very seriously.

Passion

Cannoli
Cannoli
Sue Meluzin also made it up to the Specialty weekend on Saturday. It was fun catching up and visiting. She brought the two beautiful girls she is currently showing, Cannoli, my Henry's sister, and Boo, a Q-Tip daughter. Both beautiful!

Boo.

Fall is here...the many leaves falling for my rake and mower/mulcher constantly keep me busy. Living next to the park pictured below offers plenty of them.

Great getting news from many of you. Stories and thoughts I love sharing. Sometimes it's wonderful hearing how they are adjusting to their new lives, other times how they are maturing into wonderful companions. Harrowing emails about weathering through storms...like Willow and Jack, with Kathleen and Paul, who made it through Hurricane Matt on the north coast of Florida. Birthday celebrations! And then too receiving the saddest news of all.

Tim and I have decided to get FAQ cards made up... Hard to do our workout when we get stopped 50X! No he's not an Obama dog or miniature sheep dog... Yes he's hypo-allergenic..28 pds... Companion dogs to the Tibetan monks... NO! You can't have him... Sigh... Let's just go home and cuddle!

Hi Dennis,

Hope you and the TTs are all doing well and had a nice summer! Just wanted to send you a note to update you on Bodhi on his first birthday. He is the sweetest little guy and, of course, has won over our hearts! Such a little love! Bodhi is such a happy guy and always spreads that happiness to those around him. He loves to greet everyone first thing in the morning, wagging his tail like crazy… he eagerly waits to  hear the girls wake up in the morning so he can run to say good morning. Such a wonderful way to start the day. He loves to play fetch, and the squeaky toy you sent home with him is still one of his favorites.  Just recently, he has noticed his reflection in the window at night and tries to get the “puppy in the window” to play by dropping his ball repeatedly at the window. It is very sweet. Everyone always remarks on how cute he is… and he certainly has the personality to go along with his cuteness.  Daisy is doing well too!

Best regards,
Kara & Dan Rice

Hey Dennis,

Mallomar is a Kiara pup. Best dog ever!! Mally will be 8 in November. Still acts like a puppy, the mushiest, funniest, smartest, craziest, terrorist, dog ever.

Michele

Hi Dennis,

Triscuit is as cute as can be. We’re going to puppy class and learning a lot about how to train a puppy! She loves to take walks,
she loves other dogs, she loves to eat, she is very sweet --except when she bites with those baby teeth! I know puppies bite. Do you have any suggestions? When she came back from staying with you she did not bite at all.
Hope you’re well.

Anne

Hi Dennis,

Hope all is well up north. Just wanted to share some pics of Tashi with you.  There is one with Party Girl.  There are some with his best friend Mac. Mac is a 3 month old St Bernard.
Tashi also graduates Puppy Kindergarten next week. He is so smart!! We are going to continue with classes. He truely loves class as much as we do. Well that's it for now. Enjoy the pictures!!

Amy

Dennis,

Hope all is well!  Thought we would share this picture of Lula on a gorgeous day.

Willow at the villa we had-- just waiting for the hurricane to pass on by!
Kathleen

Dennis,

Don't know if you got this email. This was the first of two emails that I just sent.

We survived Hurricane Matthew! Our area Flagler Beach and St. Augustine got it the worst. We had to evacuate and went to our sister resort called Reunion west of Orlando for 5 days. We had a spacious 3 bedroom villa, power, and food! Like a mini vacation! Willow thought it was old times and we were on the road going to a dog show! 🚙 she had no problem settling in, but Jack was a nervous nelly the first day or so.
It has been constant cleanup for two weeks now---that is for Paul outside. We had some flooding in our backyard--but not in our house! Our house weathered it well. We even had dead fish in the backyard. The Storm serge washed away walkovers as well as dunes! Our Oak  trees really were beaten up-- looks like November in MA. The trees are all bare! Portions of the A1A road in Flagler Beach were also washed away. It's Beautiful weather now and most things are back to normal, as you can see with Jack and Willow. (Jack even gave me a smile in this photo!
Hope all is well with you and your TTs!
Kathleen

awwww... and NOW we celebrate Year 2 with this magnificent bundle of pure lovelovelove and JOY!! our lives are so much MORE complete because of this fluffy muffin of love... now curtsy and Say Goodnight, Gracie!

Joel and Neva

Again I have to help say good-bye to a wonderful companion. Dorothy and Simon shared their NYC life for nearly 17 years. After a year of being old and having some issues, Simon went over the Rainbow Bridge. Our hearts break a little more when we've had that much time to become companions.
Simon almost 16 after a surgery he received from.

Simon's paws will be hard to fill, but Benjamin is going to try. Still too wee to make Dorothy feel comforted for the loss. He'll be on his way as soon as he's old enough and ready!
Benjamin at 2 1/2 weeks.

Love this photo of our Kiara celebrity TT, Miles. It's a great way to sign off. It's a great autumn shot!

Summer 2016

It's become a long, hot, dry summer here on the coast of Massachusetts. Still have to water the gardens so that there are blooms in the flower borders and fruit in the veggie patch. It's done in the darker hours and can only be done by hand. The grass is going brown...but on the brighter side, needs to be mowed less frequently. So dry here that the rabbits and chipmunks have to gnaw down many well established annuals to their thick stems to get the only liquid H2O they can find.  My favorite, the orange lilies, are starting their blooming season. And tonight there will be red cabbage served and a cooling cucumber salad. Life is good.

In putting together some material for the TTCA Journal/Yearbook, I got a little reflective. Thought backward about where it all began for Kiara Tibetan Terriers. There are many pleasant memories to reminisce about. And lots of physical material to help. This piece of artwork by Judy Docherty became significant in the exercise.

The newest group of little Kiara guys have made their ways into their loving homes. It's always great to get the first photos with little stories of how they are fitting in and making life more remarkable. These babies don't wear diapers but with a little consistency and positive reinforcement make great strides. Always so happy to help with questions and sharing whatever I can to make these transitions as positive as possible.

Melrose with her new family.

Hi,

They gave me a good bed, a nice place to hang out and a reluctant sister but we are all working on life together .

I think I miss you and mom but folks here are nice.

Hugs

Hi Dennis,

Just want to say that Triscuit is doing very well and so easy. Eats well, sleeps well, follows routines, she’s the best!

Anne

Cover boy, Miles, makes his mark in media. Just want to celebrate this little guy's moment of celebrity. He makes us all proud at home here.

Miles cover shot.....we couldn't be more proud!!!! Our little angel!

Relaxing post photo shoot.
AUGUST COVER REVEAL! Meet Miles Davis, the winner of our 2016 Cover Dog Search. When this adorable two and a half year old Tibetan Terrier plopped himself down on our photo set and grinned for the camera, we knew he was something special! One of our easiest shots of the day, his totally cute pose, unique markings and happy-go-lucky smile just won our hearts. Michelle Conner Photographer captured his cover shot in front of the new wings mural in The Gulch, created by Kelsey Montague Art. His beautiful markings inspired our very first black-and-white themed cover, and we couldn’t love it more. After all, he is a total angel! Learn all about him.”
Reaching for a cold one in celebration!

Patricia Gartland

Not everyone becomes a cover-boy star like Miles, but they twinkle plenty for the people who love them and for all the people they meet. I am always amazed that many of these little guys out there create such positive images that the people who meet them call asking for more information about the breed and in some cases become new owners of a Kiara TT.

Hi Dennis. Nimbus is on his first road trip, to Toronto, and he's taking to it instantly. About 12 pounds now and has all his shots. Really an amazing creature!  I'm photographing at drive-in movie theaters for a series of paintings and he charms the kids before the films begin. Here's happy puppy at one last night.
Steve and Alicia

Hi Dennis,
Just wanted to drop a note and let you know Shelby is doing great.   We are all loving having her as part of our family.   Here are a couple pics of her first trip on the boat and beach.  One pic showing her being a bit skeptical about the ocean.   The second showing the end result.

She's been great.

-David

Dennis,

I realized I had not sent any updates on Prince. He is doing great and getting big. Here is a pic from a recent lunch outing. Hope you are well!

Susie Lazerow

Hey Dennis,

Here we are.

You wanted photos.  Mel caught me and Dalai on the  bench the other day. Dalai is officially 4 months old. I am trying to hold her still so we can take pics.  She only wants to lick my face.

She's very big on gardening, mostly trampling and digging.
She also does a mean dog paddle in the shallow end of the pool.
Enjoy,
Helen

(Yes, Mel & I still call her Tibby every so often.)

Dear Dennis,

I tried to send this to you earlier in the week, but don't seem to have any message to you in my sent file. Just wanted to thank you again for coming to our aid by having Aanandi at summer camp for a week at chez Kiara :-)

What a smart, sweet pup!  Thanks.

Martha

Accomplishment also takes the face of hard work and dedication...like Doc who's already proven his merit if you scan back in previous News & Reviews. He's not alone in the pursuit of the "brainy" awards of his kin, but he certainly applies all his spirit and spunk into achieving the best that anyone could wish for. Applause for Doc!

Hi Dennis!

Hope all is well. Just wanted to let you know that Doc is doing great! He is such a good dog.  Attached are a couple of photos from one of his recent agility classes. He really seems to enjoy the work - when I can get him to focus on me and not keep smelling the grass. I think he might be part bloodhound sometimes!

Enjoy your summer!
Jill

Our veteran, Cooper, had his birthday today.  LET THE PARTY BEGIN!
Great thought goes into honoring him today. Treats? - gets them all the time and is watching his weight. Toys ?- resource guarder - would not see him all day. His perfect gift - on Sunday he will have someone with him all day.
And today on his birthday, Cooper did his 100th pet therapy visit. Now I just have to get all the documentation together for his new title!

Jane

Congratulations Cooper! And Jane for making it all possible. His other enthusiast, Daddy Travis, posted:

Cooper, CH Kiara Ewok Among Us REA GCG, Therapy Dog, agility training in progress ,scent work, developing and cuddlier advanced master level turns 7 today. Cooper received his AKC conformation championship after 67 shows in 7 states with me as his novice handler. This allowed me to meet most of my Facebook friends and started my passion for showing dogs. I look forward to presenting him as a veteran this year. He is the sire of three litters producing amazing pets and show dogs. Thank you Cooper for all you give us.

We celebrated Lilah's sweet sixteenth not too long ago in a News & Reviews. It is always a joy to help commemorate the oldsters as they meet life's milestones. Very recently we had to say goodbye to her, one of the fairest of them all, as she crossed over the rainbow bridge. Wishing soft and joyful memories of such a wonderful companion to her owners.

Lilah Marcus

A beloved and loving Tibetian Terrier from New York. A sister and companion to all she met.
A calm, caring and smart dog. One of a kind not to be forgotten!

Leaving with a snap shot of this year's photo for our Kiara Tibetan Terrier ad in the Journal/Yearbook. This is the handsome Baxter.
