2023 Holiday Season!

 'Tis The Season...

As the holidays approach and Thanksgiving just passed --and most of the pups have left for their new homes, I can't help but think of all the things I am thankful for. I am certainly thankful for the wonderful families that adopt the littlest of the Kiaras. Watching their eyes light up when they first see how much growth has occurred, how the angelic wee one they saw at four or five weeks has turned into a playful, animated, adoring little doggie. Always makes me smile.

Wishing everyone
the merriest...the happiest
...the peacefullest Holiday Season...
and the happiest New Year!

Open the card!

Bringing little ones into the world has been the best part of my doggie journey.

 Helping them develop and
thrive and grow from wee ones into wobbly toddlers at first and then into fast moving agile babes is such a miracle to witness.

Suddenly they are your adoring flock. You can see all this in just a few weeks.

From wet and warm in the palm of your hand to racing about the yard...it's the best part of this journey.

Some get stay here at Kiara to be show dogs and go onto to produce the generation to come. Some like Ozzy go to live in homes like Mike McLoughlin's where he will not only live up to being the best companion but will also achieve some notoriety.

Here he sits enjoying a pleasant November morning with his Whimzee Dental Stick...and I'm sure wondering why Mike is focused on him.

But most will go into their forever loving homes where they will be the best companions. Often I've been asked "is it hard?" Knowing that the families who I entrust them to are prepared to help raise a wonderful, happy TT...gives me a sense of accomplishment and contentment. I am always here for them, no matter what question. And I thank them for making exceptional loving homes for these wee Kiara bundles of joy.

Hi Dennis,

I thought this would bring joy to your heart. Please tell Miss Monroe that her baby is loved and adored. You have no idea how much we adore Merlin. He is simply perfect. You did an amazing job with him.

The meal issue has been resolved with the Pedigree Pouches wet food you told me to get. This pup loves it so much he has been chowing down. I add 1/3 of a pouch to 1/3 of a cup of kibble and he Hoovers it up.

The only thing he does not like is being left alone in the room. He gets very angry if I leave him to take a shower and make a cup of tea! He is never unchaperoned and has a big playpen in the TV room. But he needs company.

Dennis, you have brought us such joy. A million thank yous!

Hey Dennis!

Thanks again! She had a smooth ride home and very excited first night. Lucy has taken pure comfort in our home. She has picked up the stairs climbing very quickly! Now going down is another learning curve. She is amazing with the kiddos and is eating very well. House training so far has been a breeze!

Thank you again for this pup!

Best,

Jeff

Dennis,

Maisie is very happy in her new home! It was a pretty easy drive and ferry ride on Saturday. She has settled into our home, is eating well and only gets up once per night! She is so friendly and attentive to our every move. We’re so happy that Maisie is part of our family!

Debbie

Hi Dennis,

Just wanted you to know Dennis, she is doing great!!! We we’ve named her Daisy Mae.

Sue

And celebrated throughout their lives. I can barely remember my own birthday, but it warms the heart knowing someone never forgets their birthdays. Like Miles...

Happy Birthday to our sweet boy, Miles Davis! 10 years old today! He makes our world a better place bringing us love, joy and laughter! ❤️

Also great to have experiences like those offered by the Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club. This Kiara ensemble participated in the Jamboree this past month. The group wanted a family affair photo. Pose? Are you kidding!

Since 2008 I have prepared a YouTube video of photos I have received from all the wonderful TT families who have made a loving home for a Kiara Tibetan Terrier. I saved them all, scan the holiday cards, and try to include most of them. This year is no exception. I hope you take a moment to view the YouTube video to help celebrate the Holiday Season and this exceptional breed.

If it's Christmas for you...then let it be merry
if it's Chanakah...let it happy; Kwanza...joyous
However you celebrate, whatever you celebrate,

have the Happiest Holidays ever!

In putting together this edition, I looked back at all the beautiful Holiday edition "opener photos".  Like the one opening this edition, little coated Merlin, they all say...beautiful TT.  So I am going to end this edition sharing some from Holiday seasons gone by. Each one is impressive!

Happy Halloween 2023

Boo!

Summer winds down slowly here --still warm as we peel another
calendar month off. Almost November and the Impatiens are still blooming (one of the garden dwellers that faints away after a cold breeze.) But the color still grows above them...after all it is Fall.

Still enjoying a hiatus from dog shows --at least the entering/exhibiting part. Being a spectator can also be fun. And the babies in house have been keeping me busy. That's Henry. He will soon be off to join other family members (they are his older family bros) with Susan and her family in the Rocky Mountains. What a good life!

I enjoy hearing all about the the activities enjoyed by everyone with their TTs. Whether it's a birthday celebration, big activities like participating in the Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club's Jamboree, or just enjoying how bros can cuddle, please keep in in the loop. Halloween offers a reason to dress up. Whether they are greeting trick'o treaters at the door or participating in costume events...they want to do it! Roadie certainly did.

Dennis,

Roadie is super excited to announce that he earned his Novice Trick Dog title at the Tibetan Terrier Jamboree last weekend!

Jill

Happy 8th birthday Doris.

She is a champion show dog and is titled in Canine Good Citizen, Rally, Therapy Dog and Trick Dog. She is sweet, cuddly, independent and a good guard dog. She is also Cooper’s babysitter and service dog. Thank you, Dennis Gunsher for breeding wonderful TTs and to Travis and Miles for sharing her with us.

Jane

Happy 2nd birthday, Abbott! You love your pup-cup and we love you.

Hi Dennis,

I think of you often and I am always thankful – that thanks to you – I have Ditto. She is so perfect. Well maybe not perfect in her on leash behavior, but other than that she’s a gem. Loves people so much, and is always on a mission to get people to invite her into their houses. It’s crazy. I thought you might appreciate this picture of her in Maine last weekend….happily looking out over the ocean, alert for any seals and any bald eagles!

Hope all is good with you.

Chris

Hi Dennis,

Toby has grown up a lot since we got him. He and Benny are good pals. Toby is very mellow – perhaps our most laid-back Tibetan yet. When do you think it would be good time to have him neutered?

Thanks. Hope all is well with you and your pack.

David and Mary

Hi all,

Here’s the latest Toby and Benny photo. Toby at 22 pounds is now heavier than Benny but still a good match. Benny was in the chair first but Toby wanted to be there too. Bros...

Dennis,

Someone replaced my Tibetan Terrier with a mouse! Roadie was such a good boy wearing his costume today at the Abington Celebrates Oktoberfest event. I did a ton of talking about this amazing breed!

With sadness I share the news about

Ben's Henry

 who found his way over

the Rainbow Bridge.

I am always grateful to know

how they were loved...

right to the time

you have to say goodbye.

Hi Dennis,

Wanted you to know we lost Henry last month. While we are still grieving we also know how much a new focus and contribution of our love of TT babies will help us move forward. Henry was such a perfect angel – he was the best boy – and we would be so blessed to have another of your pups to care for and love. Just wanted to get on the list for the next litter. What a roller coaster.

Here’s a little tribute.

He was so loved.

Best,

Ben

Leaving you with a little bit of history. That's Richard and me with the first Tibetan, Cleo, Shalimar's Kiara Cleo, in the early 80's. She was gifted that name after a British singer, Cleo Laine. All I can say...I had lot more hair!

Hot 2023 Summer

Summer temps have been so steamy here. I'm sure not as hot as under the western US heat dome, but hot enough here for me to cool off by enjoying some iconic winter photos of a few of the Kiara clan.

 Brrrr...that kinda cools things down!

But Summer heat is here. And it has been rainy as well. Heat + Rain makes the weeds grow...but also the garden flowers. It has been a particularly colorful garden this year.

Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club also enjoyed their annual Specialty in conjunction with Ladies Dog Club. It was a fun event, colored itself with beautiful ribbons and prizes. There were majors in both sexes, and many many Specials.

I can boast a bit myself as Travis Brock finished Bunty during that weekend. Congratulations to Les, Nancy, and Travis. Now their beautiful girl is a new champion...

 CH Terpsichorean's Fire From Kiara.

Always enjoy receiving news, birthday announcements, unusual occurrences, and just up-dates on how the many Kiara's are doing. I celebrate and commemorate their lives with you. Thank you for sharing with me.

Dennis,

Terpsichorean Fire From Kiara “Bunty” returned home after The Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club Specialty weekend a champion from the Bred by Exhibitor classes (pending AKC confirmation). She was awarded Best of Winners on Sunday by Judge Sydney Good, gaining the final three points. As you see she is loved by her owners Nancy and Les. I am grateful for their dedication to the two Doris pups they own.

Bunty is my third champion sired by Gail Toracinta’s boy Ruben (CH Sumanshu Tingsha’s Marvel) bred by Petra Keulers.

Hi Dennis,

It’s a happy second birthday to Roadie!!! My puppy is growing up!

Jill

Debbie and Jim posted this beautiful photo of their KDee who is celebrating her 11th birthday!

Hi Dennis,

So great to hear from you and especially with that good news. The answer is a definite YES! Thank you so much for reaching out. I hope all goes well.

We are having a glorious summer, now that it is here. We had cold and rainy weather until about July 4th. While miserable, it does help with keeping the wildfires at bay.

The boys are doing great. Scoot is still chugging along. I actually did not think he would still be with us but he is living his best life and relaxing day after day. He goes on an occasional walk and loves seeing his other friends. Scoot,  Ranger, and AJ go on hikes on the mountain every day. They love going in the streams along the way to get a drink and cool off, and they are forever scavenging for anything they can find. They sure hit the jackpot here, as we have too. Here are some fun pics. Scoot sitting on the platform on the ski lift. Also including some other guests in our backyard!

All the best,

Susan

Dennis,

We would love to get another puppy from you. We would like another brindle puppy, male or female. Do you have any puppies now or are you expecting a litter? I will give you a call today, because I wanted to let you know about Ziggy. Just didn’t want to be  crying during the whole conversation.

Ziggy gave us so much love and happiness. Dennis, you breed such beautiful dogs that we would very much like another puppy to raise.

Best,

Debbie

Hi Dennis,

Kai is a happy healthy boy! He’s having fun exploring Green Lakes Park in Upstate New York today.

Happy summer!

Colleen and Kai

Look at them, Dennis. "We are being good. Give us treats!"

Laura

Hey Dennis,

We are all still in Bedford and will be in Maine at the end of the month. It is a back-and-forth year. Young Rocky certainly knows who carries the treats. I am more strict particularly after he ate my book. He certainly is a charmer and morning walks take time as he sniffs and smells everything. Talk about social!! He also has opinions! There is a small white dog that is carried everywhere that he can’t stand. I won’t repeat what he said. I think he will love Maine but we will still keep him on a leash. Not sure what other creatures are out there. Neutering is planned in early August.

Hope you and yours are well.

Cheers,

Judy

PS good thing we bought furniture 10 years ago that is covered in the same material as dog beds!

Benny and Toby are resting after some hard play. The white fluff near them are the innards from a dog toy they have taking apart.

David

Dennis,

Roadie is ready to represent that DAR Deborah Sampson Chapter today at the Halifax Fur Festival as we raise money for Semper K9 Assistance Dogs! We are here Noon to 4 PM. Come on down and say hi!

Jill

Dennis,

So happy to report Myrtle and Winston were the ring bearers at our wedding a few weeks ago.

XOXO

They were the cutest ever.

Myrtle is tiny! 20 pounds!

Erin

And yes, that was Mike McLoughlin's Ozzie lounging on a porch chair, leading off this edition of the Kiara News & Reviews. Ozzie is maturing handsomely. He continues on his show-dog journey.

With sadness I share the news about

Sue's Monk,

Debbie's Ziggy,

and

Susan's Scooty,

each who found their way over

the Rainbow Bridge.

I am always grateful to know

how they were loved...

right to the time

you have to say goodbye.

Hi Dennis,

We got a wonderful TT puppy from you back in 2008 and named him Monk. He was a wonderful dog – brought us so much joy. Sadly, we said goodbye to him in January, just before he turned 15 years old. Our home is too empty and quiet and we’re thinking about bringing a dog into our family this fall. Are you still breeding TTs? Would love to hear about any who might become available.

Sue

Dennis,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and for understanding the pain. We are grateful to be on your list for the late summer/fall. Monk was such a handsome guy!!

Sue

Dennis,

Yes, I am sorry to tell you that Ziggy went to doggy heaven two weeks ago. We are devastated and grieving for our wonderful, gorgeous, sensitive, mischievous, athletic dog who would turn 13 in two weeks. Ziggy tore his ACL eight years ago and the other ACL last June. They were both repaired surgically. The first repair lasted until last year and the second surgery never worked. Ziggy was such a beautiful dog that he stopped traffic wherever we went from Scottsdale, Arizona to Martha’s Vineyard where we now live permanently.

We miss Ziggy much! Thank you, Dennis, for sharing your wonderful puppies.

Debbie

Dennis,

We said goodbye to Scooty today. We knew it was coming but it’s still hard. He was absolutely the sweetest dog we have ever had. He loved his meals, he loved his sleep, he didn’t love a hike…but he always came! He loved all his doggy friends and most of all he loved us and we loved him.

Susan

And last --but not least-- I want to celebrate with you, a beautiful photo Alejandra Gurevich took of Cooper (CH Kiara Ewok Among Us).

Jane, Don, Travis, and Miles recently celebrated Cooper's 14th birthday. I put Cooper up in the new "In The Spotlight". You can view it in another part of the Kiara website:

http://www.TibetanTerriersByKiara.com

and celebrate his life.
