"Time To Celebrate" 2018

It's that time of year again. I am back from a wonderful, restful, warm visit to Puerto Vallarta to help bring the Holiday Season in. Here at Kiara, new little ones are leaving to make their joyful presence in their new companion homes. That is the best Christmas gift I receive over and over: knowing that the little ones born here over the years have made such an exceptional contribution to the lives of their new families.

Although I have posted my new YouTube Holiday video in this News & Reviews with many of the photos I have been offered, there were many photos that did not get included. Throughout this edition of the Kiara News & Reviews I will place some of those photos that show such inspirational and thought-provoking imaging...like this one below...and the photo of the two TTs touching noses that introduces this News & Reviews Holiday edition.

As busy as it has been here bringing in a new litter of little ones and caring for them until they are ready to leave, I have enjoyed hearing from others with the stories and life-time milestones of those who have left the helping pool years ago.

Jerry sent a video along with his note of Zayde's progress. She has started agility.

Hey Dennis,
Zayde is on the smaller side, which I love! And she is the sweetest. Thank you so much,
Jerry

Hi Dennis, I know it’s been a while since I’ve sent you an update, but I wanted to let you know that Doc is doing great! He’s been continuing with his obedience and agility classes, and really seems to be enjoying them. He’s having a few issues with jumping in agility, but we'll get him through that. Next week he starts an intro to rally class. I’m excited to have him try something new! This fall has been busy for Doc. He dressed up as Oscar the Grouch for Halloween and appeared in a few costume
contests. He won second prize for the most creative costume at the Salem Howl-o-Ween Pet Parade! He also won a few other prizes at smaller local contests. He also attended the National Brain Tumor Society Boston Walk and wore his costume to help bring smiles to people’s faces! He was a huge hit!

Last weekend he appeared as a fashion model in the Bark-Happy/Nordstrom Fall Fashion Show to benefit PAWS (New England and Missing Dogs of Massachusetts). Doc did excellent and walked the runway in his black jacket like a seasoned supermodel. We were super excited because we met another Tibetan Terrier (from NY) named Zoey at the event. The funny thing was, she and Doc looked very much alike, except she had a black ear and he has the black eye!

Doc is also still coming to work with me a day or so a week, and he is still trying to steal my job! Attached, along with this Halloween and model photos, is a pic of him at my desk designing a web banner. Who knew he was that talented! Hope all is well with you and you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday season!

Jill & Doc

And so comforting to know that --although I do not remember the many birthdates-- that their owners celebrate them every year.

Dennis!
Can't believe it but...Happy 10th Birthday to Mallomar! She keeps us laughing, loving, and yelling every day!!!
Michelle

Hi Dennis,

We received your adorable card – thank you! We are picking hours off this evening, but wanted to share some additional memories of our little family with you! Jai is our pride and joy –a true blessing to us! She is still only 20 pounds so we travel with her all the time (here she is in her bag). We saw Santa this past weekend at our dog park in the North End. She has quite a little personality, and grew into a beautiful girl. Groomer tomorrow lol (she needs it!) Have a really nice Christmas!

Yours,

Bobby, Grace, and Jai

Not all the news is about the beginning...or the middle of their lives...but are of the end. Lily made a great companion and because of her and her life inspired a desire to look for another. Many times when they pass over the Rainbow Bridge, it takes time to grieve and think about a new companion.

Hi Dennis,

Hope you remember me, I picked up/adopted Lilly from you in March 1999, we met at the Boston airport. I was with the Chicago Tribune.

I lost to Lilly August 2016, she was just shy of her 17thbirthday. It has taken a bit to get over her just as it did my first Tibetan Alex. I think I’m ready to get another Tibetan.

Would love to hear from you about this. Thanks so much and hope all is well with you.

 Best,

 Judi

Snowy helping Deb to make cider.

Since 2008 I have prepared a YouTube video of photos I have received from all the wonderful TT families who have made a loving home for a Kiara Tibetan Terrier. I saved them all, scan the holiday cards, and try to include most of them. This year is no exception. I hope you take a moment to view the YouTube video to help celebrate the Holiday Season and this exceptional breed.

A couple other received TT photos: whether alert or asleep or grouped together to frolic a TT walk...

If it's Christmas for you...then let it be merry
if it's Chanakah...let it happy; Kwanza...joyous
However you celebrate, whatever you celebrate,
have the Happiest Holidays ever!

One last inspiring and thought-provoking photo I found so appealing to end this edition of the Kiara News & Reviews:

End Of Summer 2018

End of summer

Summer has come to an end. The veggie patch is whizzening from lack of enough sunshine and from erratic New England temps…and probably even because of the amount of deluge rainfall. But it fed me veggies all summer long. Still have stuff trying to ripen.

IMG_7160IMG_7164

The flower gardens too have offered much color. Now the dahlias, the zinnias, and the Mexican sunflowers brighten the side border. And the morning glory vines have produced an abundance of bluish white trumpets at the start of the white garden.

The stock also arrived this summer. We (Linda Milbrath and I) planned a unique breeding –one I have wanted to do for a long time. Her Echo –a handsome male who was out of my Asland– was bred to Miss Lucy. Remarkable because Echo passed over the rainbow bridge years ago and luckily Linda stored some of his semen. It was much anticipated.

TSARINA3
TSARINA

On July seventeenth Lucy gave birth to two vigorous golden brindle babes…looking much like their dad’s coloring. Lucy –always the good mom– cared well for her little girl, Tsarina, and her son, Charlie, until I had to take over. Tsarina remains here at Kiara; her brother Charlie went to live with a family who actually had an Echo sister for 16 years!

Always good to hear how the Kiara TTs are doing.

Dennis,Just a note to say she is a real joy. And is in advance to puppy kindergarten but learning new tricks on her own.

Dennis,

Yah!!  We are so excited and thanks for keeping us in the loop. I know I sent you a photo of Bodhi with my daughter but here he is with my son.

Loring

Thank you for the most wonderful babies in the world! These boys and girl give us so much joy. Tashi’s coat is soooooo thick and full, it is difficult for me to keep it properly so all go to groomers every two weeks look beautiful for 10 minutes and then out to the yard to run, dig, and look like they have never seen a brush or comb. All okay because we keep coat mat free. I’ll try and send a video of them coming up the ramp. Look forward to seeing you in September when we vacation in Rockport and the baby vacation with you. See you soon. Video will be under separate attachment.

Denny

KDEE joining her father who just turned 13. Hard to believe he is that old.

Hi Dennis,

He was born eight years ago today! Riley still makes all of us happy every day — and we thank you!!

I hope you’re doing well.

Richard

Hi Dennis,

Hope your summer is going well. We are loving Shackleton. He is such a great friend for both John and I. Happy and joyful! Really we can’t believe how wonderful he is. He loves going to wherever we go, such a good traveler…Good on the boat, good in the car, loves camping!

We had a little sailing and camping trip over the Fourth of July and he had a great fun visiting islands off the coast of Maine. We are starting to leave him off leash and he is doing so well with recall And sticking with us. The islands were great fun because they were small enough he could just run around and we didn’t have to worry about him getting lost are running into anyone. He had more fun than we did! But, I have to say, we have more fun because he is with us. He is funny and keeps us smiling all the time!

Here are a few pics that we took over vacation. I can’t thank you enough for bringing him into the world.

Hope all is well with you!

AnnMarie & John

And saying goodbye is always the hardest thing we have to do...

Hi Dennis,
I wanted to let you know we had to bring Vinny to the rainbow bridge two weeks ago, one week shy of 16 (I believe his birthday was September 27, 2001). He was a fabulous dog and we are so sad to have had to say goodbye.
Thanks again for bringing him into our lives.
Best,
Adrienne.

Springtime 2018

SPRING -- 2018

It's been a long time coming this year, but it's finally getting seasonally springtime! After seeing last year's FaceBook post pop up on my newsfeed that I planted cold weather veggies, I got busy and put some in. (Must have been warmer last year!) But there are buds on everything and even some early bloomers are shouting out "spring has arrived!"

The local TT club, Bay Colony Tibetan Terrier Club, held their annual show at the Big E in W. Springfield. It was well attended by exhibitors and fancier-spectators. Though I couldn't show anything myself as I was judging Chows the next day, I enjoyed watching the entry strut their stuff. Got to catch up with folks I don't see a lot and especially enjoyed seeing my very good friends. Sue Meluzin (seen in the following photos) exhibited two of Q-Tips kids: Boo in the bitch classes who needs a major to finish her AKC championship and Reuben in the Specials ring. Just look at that long row of beautifully presented Specials!

Sue and Boo.
The video above is of some of the Specials showing themselves to their best advantage by their very capable handlers. Remarkable to watch!

Boo almost garnered her last points. She went Reserve Winners Bitch to the 5 point major. Well, almost.

Hearing how the little guys that leave here fit into their new lives is always well received. Watching them grow from those lovable --but pesky-- little creatures into great companions helps keep me invested. Thank you for sharing with me.

Hey Dennis,

Hope all is well.

Hogan is doing great! He has adjusted to our house quite nicely.

Thanks again,

Dave

Hi Dennis

He’s settled in quite nicely.

Lauren

Hi,

Charlie and Lula were very cooperative on their daily play date. They even posed for some pictures for you!

Charlie is almost a big a Lula, but Lula is definitely in change.

Hope all is well,

Alecia

Dennis,

Alecia cc’d me on the photos. The pups are truly adorable. Again, have to thank you for our Lula! (And Charlie, of course.

Came across these pen and watercolors that Nina did of Lula a year or so ago and thought you might enjoy them.

Mona

Hi Dennis,

Harley is doing great. She is a good dog and a quick learner.

She went to the vets today so is up on her shots. She is a little over eight pounds and everyone at the vets loves her.

I’m glad you like the tree. I love mine so I thought you would like it.

Cathy

Hi Dennis,

I tried to send this last week but not sure if you got it. A little video of Sophia playing with “Sunny”. She is an awesome puppy!!

Joe

Dennis,

Doris and Cooper –Therapy Dogs! Best job for these TTs.

Jane

Hi Dennis!

Thank goodness, we didn't get much of this wet snow this year.
Hope you are doing well.  Just wanted to give you some updated pics of our girl, Jai Alai! She is festive today!

Grace

Dennis,

Zayde is doing very well.

Gerald

Zayde helps out at Animal Rescue League in Boston's Southend...near where she lives. So happy always that the little ones leave and sometimes share their fortune with others.

Hi Dennis,

Incredibly, a whole month has flown by since we picked up Dzogi. He is WONDERFUL. He is growing like crazy – I swear, from the time he goes into his crate at night until morning, he comes out bigger. He’s learned a few commands and he is really catching onto the house training. He’s funny, loving, mellow, energetic, really quick to notice things and remember. We couldn’t be happier.
I have one quick question: he’s up to date on all immunizations with just the last lepto-distemper shot to go. Do you recommend the Lyme vaccine? Bailey always got it, but he also got Lymes disease three times. I am not a bit sure how effective the shot is, and I don’t like giving creatures, either to litigate our four-legged, useless pathogens.

Thanks, and below you can see the morning portrait.

Best,

Laurie

Aanandi and Moxie. They have such a wonderful time together! Thank you Dennis! Hope you are well.

Martha

Hi Dennis,

I thought you might like to see how Tashi is doing – she just got spayed and bounced back in a day. She is very, very sweet and considers our other dog her mother. They play all the time.

She is quite nervous and has taken months to warm up to us one by one, except she loved my husband nearly right away as you said she might. My daughter is still working on it.

She spends a lot of time sleeping next to the beanbag in the photo, and it is hard to tell them apart. We think this is also like a mother to her!

She is a doll.

Hope you are well,

Ann

Dennis,

Wanted to send a brief update--I believe that tomorrow is Tobi's birthday.

She's been great--a stubborn ear canal fungal infection, a GI bug--but otherwise a much-loved addition to the family.

Attaching a recent picture (with Evan), and an Evan essay that we stumbled on while cleaning--probably written when he was in 5th or 6th grade--recalling the day we picked up Ali. (Let us know if you can't open pictures).

Hope all is good with you.

Best,

Charley, Cam, Kate, Evan, and Tobi

The following note and photo were from many years ago when Ali went to live with Charles, Cam, Kate, and Evan...when Evan wrote that wonderful essay of when he got his dog. These little ones --like Ali and Tobi-- have helped me forge so many wonderful relationships.

Dennis,

Hope you are doing well.

We wanted to give you an update on Ali --she's
doing great, is much loved, and may be the
sweetest dog I've ever met. She certainly has
claimed the number one spot in the kid's
affection.

Kind Regards, and thanks again for trusting
that we would be good parents.

Charles, Cam, Kate, and Evan

The celebration of milestones like Tobi's 1st birthday is always balanced off. We celebrate their every antic. I do here myself --their first wobble, their first messy meal, first bark, etc. etc.

But we also see them to the Rainbow Bridge. They leave us alone for a bit feeling left behind...but in time with memories that they shared with us as our wonderful companions. Hearing about their passings and the lives you shared with them is welcome here. Debbie and I spoke of Truffin's passing over the Rainbow Bridge recently. I hope I can help with a few words of solace. We celebrated Truffin's life.

Hi Dennis.

Sorry for being such a mess on the phone.  I thought I was ready to call you and say it out loud, but I guess not.  I think by the summer I will be ready to welcome a new addition to our family.  We would be looking for a female puppy.  Please put me on your list.

Thank you again for 15 very happy years with my beautiful Truffin.

Debbie

In closing this News & Reviews: I attended a TT Meet-Up yesterday. I recommend joining one in the future if you can. It was so much fun.

This meet-up was held at World's End in Hingham, MA. What a magnificent site! Trails leading over hilly terrain in salt water marshland with the Boston skyline visible over the harbor made for spectacular vistas.

But what made it very special were the TT friends who met up and enjoyed it all with their Tibetan Terriers. The two hours flew by and we were all well exercised; me, ready for a nap.

Jane Goodell helps arrange these meet-ups in New England. One of the next ones is going to be in Newburyport. Can't wait.

This last photo is of Mr. Cooper with me. Thanks for including me in such a wonderful day. Site, weather, friends...it couldn't have been more perfect.
